Drink-spiking prompts raids

Hamilton police searched a number of properties in an effort to crack down on a growing spate of drink-spiking incidents.

There have been 22 complaints of drink spiking since November.

Police say seven women made complaints of rape or sexual assault after having their drinks tampered with.

Detective Senior Sergeant Glenn Dunbier says a considerable amount of material seized in the raids is being analysed.

Dunbier says around 25 calls have been received on a hotline to gather information on drink spiking and possible suspects.

Hamilton police are to establish a squad to focus on the growing party drug scene and drink tampering.
